The Anti-hipster’s playtoy

The Anti-hipster’s playtoy

Hipsters have their hats; their fake glasses and their rolled up jeans, however they’ll never have what the anti-hipster has- Memes. Memes have been lurking around the World Wide Web for many years now; originally memes were exclusively the badge of honour of the internet geek, the anti hipster (not to be mixed up with the horrible topshop tops), however the mainstream has got hold of this phenomenon and won’t let go of it.Memes started out as a black background with a picture in the middle, and then there would be usually be a word or a few words followed by a punch line. I know that delving into the depths of what makes a meme good can in fact can take the fun out of the meme. These “original” memes can be argued to be some of the funniest memes every made. Take for instant the “I will always love you” posted at the bottom of this blog. It does shamefully make fun of a tragedy but it can be excused for being hilarious. Most memes succeed because they get to the punch line in rapid speed and therefore you aren’t left there reading a meme waiting to laugh. Many of the funniest memes that I have encountered are short and snappy. Take for instance the “instagram is down describe me your lunch” and “No time to explain” memes. Memes like many things need to evolve and they now have changed to relate to current affairs and the latest movies. It is very common for a blockbuster movie to have its own meme, with Hobbit and Lord of the Rings having their own memes. Memes ave now entered the big bad world of the mainstream , the era of the anti-hipster is now over and that can only be a good thing.
