"In Soviet Russia.."

Yakov Smirnoff ( no, not the vodka) is a comedian who emigrated to U.S from the USSR. "In Soviet Russia" is a joke series originated by the comedian. The joke is an example of antimetabole. The joke is old, it was popular in the late 80's and eventually fell out of fashion in the 90's. Nowadays, it has been brought up to life among various online communities and in social media and it has become a meme.

The joke series contracts the differences between for example, the U.S and Soviet Russia. Here's a couple of funny? examples;

In America, you break law.
In Soviet Russia, law breaks you!
In America, your work determines your marks.
In Soviet Russia, Marks determines your work!
In America, you assassinate presidents.
In Soviet Russia, presidents assassinate you!
In America, you watch Big Brother.
In Soviet Russia, Big Brother watches you!

These jokes have been used in popular TV animation shows such as, the King of the hill, Family guy and the Simpsons.

The reason why the joke was reborn in 2005 is unclear, but since that it has become a meme and people are making their own versions of it and distributing them all around the various internet communities and channels.

Candy Crush; The Game That Destroys Lives.

Candy Crush is a game which runs on the iPhone games platform. It has become a global success in only a matter of months. However this game, like many others before it, seems to have entered the maturity/decline phase as its popularity which was projected across social media, has begun to fade.

The aim of Candy Crush is simple; try and position three or more of the same shape in a line to clear "jelly" or destroy fruit within the game. Once either of these tasks are completed, you proceed to the next level.

However, this game has been largely projected and gained exposure via social networking, pre-dominantly Facebook. Facebook users can donate lives to other CC players, vice versa. Therefore, CC saw a growing community of avid players assist each other by donating lives and inviting each other to play.

However, this community is now in the decline, and CC looks set to join the scrap pile like many other Smart Phone games

In the meantime, I'm off to research the up-and-coming games so I can prepare a blog stating it's decline in 3 months.

See ya!

Bad Luck Brian

Bad luck Brian is a series of memes which include a picture of a guy ‘Brian’ paired with 2 comments, one being a positive scenario and the other being a not so good outcome, hence the name bad luck Brian. The meme has become extremely popular on the internet with several Twitter and Facebook accounts dedicated to him. Who knew some pictures broadcasting some poor boys bad luck could be so amusing!

Take a look at some of the best bad luck Brian memes.

The New Sarcastic and Funny E-Cards

An e-card is similar to a postcard or greeting card but the difference is it is created using digital media instead of the traditional paper methods. Traditionally e-cards have been sent to wish someone a happy birthday or good luck with your new job but recently e-cards have been taking a sarcastic and pretty humorous form and have been taking the internet by storm. A picture with a funny sentence attached, providing light relief for all internet users bored at work, at university, etc, it is fair to say these e-cards bring a smile to your face, long may they stick around!

The concept of hanging

One Internet fad which I hope to god goes away is using the word "hanging" or "henging or "hangin" on social media websites or however you want to spell that horrible phrase. The phrase is usually used by someone who caused "carnage" last night on the dance floor(another phrase I wouldn't be too upset to see the back of). Most of the time, the phrase is accompanied by a picture of the simpleton with his/her face tripping them, a throwback to my previous blog about selfies. The fact is, it needs to stop, you ain't a bloody coat on a clothes peg, how could you possibly be hanging!

The Legend that is Remi Gaillard: Part 4

In the fourth Installment of this mini-series of blogs about Remi Gaillard, we move onto his animal personas. His most famous one being when he dressed up as a Kangaroo and proceeded to hop about the place like a Kangaroo would do. However, he did it whilst ruining other people's  days. In the video, he is seen pushing sand over people; jumping into puddles in front of people and also kicking people into rivers(above picture). People might say he goes too far by doing things like this however he can be forgiven for just being so hilarious!

The legend that is Remi Gaillard: Part 3

We all love Pacman, Don't we? DONT WE! and we also love our main man Remi Gaillard. What would happen if both heavyweights came together and made a youtube video, it'd be awesome right? Damn right, it was. In our third installment of this mini-series of blogs that I have bought you about our favourite frenchman, he moves on to become Pacman. In the video, Remi and friends dress up like the game and try to act it out in a supermarket- plus other venues before being caught. The video is hilarious however you got to feel for our friend especially when he gets a whack on the leg from a golfer. Never change,Remi,Never change!
